Yes, Nathan Tricky Allen is a magician, but don’t be fooled – you will see NO tuxedo and NO sparkly boxes in this show. Instead, Nathan combines sleight-of-hand magic, stand-up comedy, dangerous tricks, stupid stunts, immature pranks, and hilarious (and unpredictable) audience interaction into one of the very few magic shows in the entire country that is both geared for adults AND funny.

With over 20 years of professional on-stage experience, the best trick up Nathan’s sleeve is his ability to connect with a crowd, and it’s a trick he can pull off whether he is at a comedy club, a biker bar, or a Fortune 500 corporate event – each of which regularly give him standing ovations.

Known for being naughty and tons of fun, without being gross or offensive, Nathan’s personality-driven performances have been described as “One of the funniest magic shows EVER!” (Happenings Magazine; Kenosha, WI), “Star entertainment!” (Inside Magic; Los Angeles, CA), and “A laugh-filled night with a wild and edgy magician!” (Seattle Performs; Seattle).

The International Brotherhood of Magicians presented Nathan with the Justo Hijo Magic Award, based on skill, originality, and entertainment value. He has performed at private parties for heads of state, has appeared on NBC, ABC, The CW, PBS, and TV3 (Europe), and he has been invited to entertain at special corporate events across America for 3M, Budweiser, Ford, Honda, Chevrolet, Wal-Mart, and Facebook, to name just a few.

And yet, in a typical example of his priorities, he insists that he is most proud of being elected Class Clown.

The August 5th performance will be Allen’s full hour-long headlining show – the same performance that has been seen at comedy clubs and corporate events nationwide, and the money raised will be directly given back to members of our fire family that are in need of support due to medical emergencies or other unforeseen circumstances.

See you Saturday, August 5th!

On June 1st, Mike went to the emergency room with stomach issues and discolored urine. To his surprise, he received a cancer diagnosis after medical professionals found two spots on his liver. The diagnosis was cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of liver cancer.

As a healthy Army veteran and DMFD firefighter, Mike and his family were stunned. He served 20 years in the US Army and has been with DMFD for 17 years.

Mike needed a biliary drain to drain the bilirubin from his body before undergoing surgery and chemotherapy. After waiting for his bilirubin to return to a safe level, five new lesions were discovered, making him ineligible for surgery.

Thanks to a friend’s recommendation, Mike reached out to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for a second opinion. During his visit, he experienced severe abdominal pain and was admitted to the emergency room for seven days. Fortunately, MDA was able to collect their own data and exchange his biliary drain, allowing his bile to drain internally.

After his discharge, he came back to Des Moines to begin a six-month chemotherapy regimen with a combination of immunotherapy and chemotherapy, with trips back to Houston every two months for CT scans and every three months for a drain exchange. His biopsies were sent for further genetic testing, which revealed that he had mutations that could be targeted with specific treatments.

He will continue his 6 months of chemo to see how the cancer reacts to the initial treatment and the next steps will be determined from there.

The Broderick family knows that the journey has only just begun, and appreciate the tremendous support everyone has shown. Your generosity will help Mike & his family to focus on the fight against his cancer and not the financial toll that a battle like this takes.

Please join us on August 5th as we raise funds to support Mike and his family during this time.
